Richard Earl Felter

In Memorial

Richard Earl Felter passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy, after a long and courageous struggle with multiple myeloma. He was born June 9, 1931 to the late Jacob and Ida Felter.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Marilyn; three children, Carol (Eddie) Steele of Atlanta, GA, and Brandon, Christopher, and Allison; Douglas (Lesley) Felter of Kittanning and Gavin, Aidan, Nolan; and Kristen (Ian) Turner of Lancaster, and Justin, Bryanna and Will; two sisters, Catherine Phelps, Vestal, NY and Marie Lusht, Endicott, NY. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald.

Richard was educated at Harpur College, Endicott, NY, and the Pennsylvania State University where he received both his Masters and PhD in Physical Chemistry. He spent his entire career with Armstrong World Industries as a research chemist. Afterwards he enjoyed preparing taxes with H & R Block, until his illness in March 2004.

He enjoyed family vacations at Hilton Head Island, SC and traveling to Europe, Hawaii, and the nationĂ¢â‚¬™s national parks and monuments. He was a past member of the East Hempfield Exchange Club where he ran a basketball program for elementary age children.

Richard was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church for forty years where a memorial service will be held Monday, January 19, 2009 at 2:00 PM. The family will greet relatives and friends an hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance of Richard’s life can be sent to the Memorial Fund at Highland Presbyterian Church, 1801 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 or to Hospice of Lancaster County, P. O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
