Doris Jane Zahm, 90, of Lancaster, went home to the Good Lord on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Oak Leaf Manor North Senior Living Facility. Born on April 10, 1935 in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Martin Lee Alexander and Lillian Katherine (Caler) Snyder.
Doris was employed by Lancaster City Bureau of Police as a school crossing guard. She was a member of the former Lancaster Bureau of Police Auxiliary Unit. She also worked as a school bus driver for Schultz Transportation Company and as a housekeeper for the Long Home. She served as a den mother for Cub Pack 25 of the Boy Scouts of America. She enjoyed camping & traveling, storytelling, playing cards & board games, reading, taking pictures, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert C. Zahm, whom she married on July 4, 1953, and her brothers James Kenneth Alexander and Alan "Butch" Alexander. She is survived by her four sons: James R. husband of Marvel (Brubaker) Zahm of Lancaster, Charles A. husband of Patricia (Rogers) Zahm of Mount Joy, Dennis E. husband of Amy (Rogers) Zahm of Lewes, Delaware, and David L. husband of Sherry Landis of Lancaster. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 4, 2025 at the DeBord Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory located at 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Robert Garvey officiating. Family will receive guests at the funeral home for a viewing at 10:00 A.M. The service will begin at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
