Joan Piersol Burks

Joan McCausland Piersol Burks, 87, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025 at Willow Valley Communities, Lancaster PA. She was born in West Chester, PA to the late J. Robert Piersol and Elinore (McCausland) Piersol of Guthriesville, PA. She is predeceased by Archie Roy Burks, her husband of 51 years, a sister Patricia Piersol Pacinelli, and a step grandson.

Joan was a dedicated mathematics educator whose career spanned 40 years, teaching in Germany at Ramstein Air Force Base and in the states of New Jersey, California, Virginia and Maryland. Joan and her husband Roy were avid travelers.

She is survived by a brother, a niece and nephew, five great nieces and nephews, two stepsons, a stepdaughter, and five step grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the Cedar Brook staff and Hospice and Community Care for their excellent care and compassion.

Joan will be laid to rest, alongside her husband Roy, at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC.
