James R. Heck, age 87, of Brethren Village, passed away on the morning of Monday, June 23, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Pottstown, PA, he was the son of Russell O. Heck and Alberta Johnson. He graduated from Royersford High School in 1955 and from Juniata College in 1959.
Jim was a U.S. Army veteran, a partner at the insurance agency George W. Bard & Son, and an active member of the Lancaster Church of the Brethren for 57 years. He also volunteered with the Hempfield Optimist Club, Hempfield Jaycees, and Hempfield Sertoma.
He loved his Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies, and regularly attended Penn State football games. Friends, family, and church members looked forward to his birthday calls every year—a simple tradition that meant a lot to many.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanne Heck, son Timothy Heck, daughter Tamera Rowan, grandchildren Kiri Rowan, Kiani Rowan, Kai Mills, Tyler Heck, Shane Heck, Kaitlyn Heck, and great-grandchild Ryder Curtis.
A memorial service will be held at the Lancaster Church of the Brethren on Saturday, July 19, at 10:30 a.m., preceded by a time to greet the family from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private at the Lancaster Church of the Brethren Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lancaster Church of the Brethren, Hospice, or the Brethren Village Good Samaritan Fund.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by DeBord Snyder Funeral Home.
