Willard Eugene Oliver
Willard E. Oliver, known to family and friends as Gene, died on December 13 at Willow Valley Community Retirement Community in Lancaster, Pennsylvania after a brief illness. He was 91. He was born on July 13, 1920 in Great Falls, Virginia. In 1941 he married Julia Lee of Herndon, Virginia, having already begun a 23-year career in the United States Army, in the course of which he served at several posts in this country and abroad including two tours of duty in Korea and one in Germany.
Following his retirement in 1960 with the rank of captain, he worked for more than twenty years for J.P.Morgan Bank on Wall Street in New York City. Mrs. Oliver worked nearby for the Real Estate Division of Trinity (Episcopal) Church. After moving to Lancaster in 1988, they became active members of First United Methodist Church and were also enthusiastic patrons of Allegro: The Chamber Orchestra of Lancaster.
Mrs. Oliver died in 2007. Mr. Oliver is survived by a son, William, of Cooperstown, New York and his partner, Michael Willis; a nephew, Willard M. Oliver and his wife Judy; two nieces, Deborah Bour and Nadine Lindgren; and seven great nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, corner of Duke and Walnut Streets, Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, December 28 at 3:00 P.M. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday, December 28 from 2:00 P.M. until the time of service. Interment will be at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Virginia on Thursday, December 29 at 2:00 P.M.
