Virginia R. “Ginny” Atkinson, 92, a resident of Masonic Village, died Saturday, July 21, 2012.
She was the wife of the late Thomas C. Atkinson who died in 1983. Born in West Reading, she was the daughter of the late Robert G. and Mildred V. Rector Ohlinger.
Virginia graduated from the Reading Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the Hamilton Park United Church of Christ and a former member of St. James Episcopal Church where she had been a longtime member of the choir. Virginia was also a member of the Woman’s Garden Club of Lancaster, the Reading Hospital Alumni Association, the Lancaster Symphony and the Fulton Foundation. Her interests included gardening, ceramics and Bible study.
Surviving are two sons, Roger M. Atkinson of Lancaster, and Randall C. husband of Carol Atkinson of Allentown; a daughter, V. Louise wife of Dennis Longenecker of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and a step brother Peter Fox of Ocean Pines, MD.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Catherine M. Shiley officiating. Friends may greet the family at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the Laureldale Cemetery, Reading, PA.
