Virginia “Ginny” E. Bailey, 84, of Lancaster, died on March 14, 2017. She was the loving wife of Kenwyn “Ken” F. Bailey, recently celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. Born in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jacob H. and Goldie I. (Lehman) Smith.
Ginny graduated from Hempfield High School in 1950. She worked for Armstrong Cork Company, Dr. Gerald Albright, and until her retirement, Hempfield High School, where she always exhibited school spirit and was known as “the voice of Hempfield.”
She was a volunteer for the Amos Herr Foundation, the LGH Health Campus, and Woodcrest Villa. In her spare time, she enjoyed writing poetry, creating stained glass sun-catchers, decorating and keeping in touch with her friends and former students on Facebook.
In addition to her husband Ken, she is survived by her daughter Cherlynn Myers (wife of Rodney) and grandchildren, Benjamin Myers (husband to Jinky Renee), and Lauren Ressler (wife of Jesse).
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service at Hempfield Church of the Brethren, 1186 Stevens St., Manheim, PA 17545 on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. The family requests that guests wear bright and vibrant colored outfits to honor Ginny. Interment will be private in Hempfield Brethren Cemetery.
Ginny wrote for her tombstone “I did die, thus here I lie. You will too, so go and do.” Contributions may be made in her memory to the house of worship or to support the arts of your choice.
