The Rev. Walter D. Carlson, 72, of Lancaster, died peacefully in his home on Reformation Sunday, October 25, 2020. He was born in McKeesport, PA on February 17, 1948, to the late Walter V. and Nellie M. Carlson. He was married to Allison Carlson for 49 years, loving father of Whitney Ryan (wife of Scott), of Keene, NH, and proud grandfather of Mackenzie, Jackson, and Tessa. He is also survived by his sister, Estelle O’Brien, of Bethel Park, PA.
Words cannot express how much his loss means to you. I know he was a wonderful person, loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather. He is now at peace with the Lord. As your friend, I will continue praying for you and your family.
Rest in peace old friend from St. John’s Lutheran Church, Shiremanstown PA
My sympathy to you Allison and your family.

May Walt rest in peace and rise in glory. Our deepest sympathy.
Walt was stalwart in the faith, a shining light in witness to the world and the church, and a model of faithful pastoral ministry. He had greater influence on me than he knew. I saw him as a model of theological integrity and pastoral compassion. I pray in thanksgiving for his life and witness, and for the comfort of the Holy Spirit for his family and many across the church who now mourn his loss. Farewell good and faithful servant.
Blessings in all things. I pray for you tears and joy in remembrance. God is with you.
I’m saddened to.hear of Walt’s passing. I knew him through his friends Tom and Judy McKee when I was their foster kid in the 70s. Walt, Tom, and Judy were wrapping up their studies at the Seminary. I loved tagging along with the four of them and sharing meals on occasion. When I smell red wine and garlic while hearing the ambient sounds of Brahms, Beethoven, or Mozart, I flash back to these lovely times. Walt was the funny man–he would take on the affect of a theological pedant from what seemed like centuries earlier. He always made me laugh with these brief impromptu “skits.” Bless you, Walt. Condolences to Allison and the family.
Dear Allison,
So sorry for your loss.
Best

I was so sad to hear of Walt passing. He with his Lord and savior. I know he is at peace. He was a wonderful man. My condolences to your family, Allison. I will pray that he and Pat find one another. Peace be with you.
I am deeply saddened to hear this news. I remember him fondly and took a few minutes to reminisce on so many wonderful memories
He was a pivotal person in my life Allison and Whitney. I can still see his head tilt to the side and a little smile on his face as he would patiently answer our endless questions.
To this day and all the troubling times in the world., I have peace because of what he told me long ago when I came to him worried about the some turmoil in the world. He gave me that same tilt of the head and warm smile and said ” All you need to know is that Jesus wins”. It has kept me grounded and it is advice I have passed onto my children.
I pray for God to grant you heavenly peace and may you feel His unending love.

With our prayers for all who were part his life and work and knew his faithfulness and witness to Christ and the Church… May the angels lead him to where Lazarus is poor no longer… so he may find rest in the arms of our risen Lord.
