Terry Sheaffer WEB

Terrance “Terry” R. Sheaffer, 85, of Lancaster, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Christmas Eve, 2014, at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy, surrounded by his daughter Ann Sheaffer and his caregiver Gail Barnes, both of whom he resided with. Born in Lancaster, PA in 1929, he was the son of the late A. Paul and Catherine (Holtzapple) Sheaffer. Terry was the loving husband of the late Shirley (Spence) Sheaffer, who passed away in 1999.

After graduating from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1947, Terry began working for Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. as a meter reader. He spent his entire working career with PP&L, having retired in 1998 in the building maintenance department. After his retirement, he worked as the part time custodian of the former Abbeyville Road Christian Church for ten years. He then went on to volunteer for eight years at Lancaster General Hospital.

Terry and Shirley were longtime members of the former Church of Christ/ Abbeyville Road Christian Church where they served in many ways and made longtime friendships. In his younger years, he played on the church’s softball and bowling teams. He also attended Faith Bible Fellowship Church. He enjoyed watching McCaskey, Penn State and Eagles Football. He became quite popular with Tina, Oliver, Squirt and Vespa, his canine family.

Besides Ann, listed above, Terry is survived by four siblings, Sidney R. and Jessie Sheaffer, of Gordonville, Thomas R. Sheaffer, of Lancaster, Mary K. Huber, of Covina, CA, Joseph R. Sheaffer, of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his wife, listed above, and three brothers, Paul C., Bruce B., and J. Donald.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial service in the “Stables” at the Faith Bible Fellowship Church, 151 Donerville Rd. Lancaster, PA 17603, on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. David Thomann officiating. Family will greet friends informally following the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Please omit flowers; however contributions in Terry’s memory may be made to the Children Ministries of Faith Bible Fellowship Church, address listed above.

My condolences to Terry’s family for their loss. I remember Terry from church as well as being a friend with Ann as we grew up. Even thought this season will be rough each year, remember that you will have a special angel looking down on you.

Ann – Sorry to hear of your dad’s passing; I know he and Jerry shared some really great times together, both of them working hard at the church. He was always ready with a quick smile and so helpful. May God comfort and bless you.

Ann, I worked with your Dad most of my career. He was a very kind and funny man. He often spoke very sweet about you and your Mom. And always kept me informed of what was happening at the church and choir. I know his passing is hard for you but he is now with his Shirley and his Lord.
