Susan J. Wallin

Wallin web

Susan J. Wallin, age 70, of Lancaster, passed away on November 9, 2020 at Brethren Village. She was the beloved sister of Richard P. Wallin and David O. Wallin.

She was born on August 31, 1950 in Eglin Air Force Base, Florida to Jane (Oakes) Wallin and Dr. Paul E. Wallin who was a Captain in the USAF.

She was a graduate of Hempfield High School and later earned an A.A. Degree from Cushing Junior College and a B.A. Degree from Elizabethtown College. She also earned an A.S. Physical Therapy Assistant Degree from Harcum Junior College and also took graduate courses from Millersville University.

Over the course of her career she worked for a wide variety of organizations in Lancaster County performing physical therapy for patients ranging from special needs children to seniors.

She attended Victory church in Lititz and in her spare time, was noted for her unique silk flower arrangements.

Susan received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the Way in Barn in Leola back in the early 70’s.  She had a lifelong battle with cerebral palsy, but she did not let her disabilities slow her down.  Susan was an example to many with her determination and faith in God.  She had the Word of God as her strength and on her death bed, Susan was quoting Bible verses.  What an inspiration she was!  She will be missed, but her memory and example will live on in our hearts.

In addition to her brothers, David and Richard Wallin, she is survived by sisters-in-laws Christina and Dawn; her nieces, Joy Huber, Meredith Steidler and Naomi Wallin; five great-nieces and nephews and many very close friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service at Grace Baptist Church, 1899 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603 on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Greg Funk officiating.  A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Quarryville Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to:  The Way Recovery Houses, 3545 Marietta Ave. Suite W., Lancaster, PA 17601.  To leave an online condolence for the family, please visit: www.DeBordSnyder.com

I was a classmate of Susan’s from elementary school to high school. I most recently spoke with her at our 50th class reunion. Susan remained the same cheerful and friendly person that she was as a young child! My heartfelt sympathy to your family for your loss.

Richard and David I was saddened to read Susan‘s obituary. I have fond memories of Susan in the halls of Hempfield. She was one of the most pleasant kids I ever met, always a smile for me and she exhibited great courage. I know what sadness her passion brings for I just lost my wife but I can candidly tell you the memories are sustaining me. And Richard and David I wish you the same. Lewis E. Jury

I was very sad to learn of Susan’s passing. Please accept my sincere sympathy in this tremendous loss. Susan and I got to know each other riding the school bus together beginning in elementary school and I always admired her strength and optimism. She had a ready smile and genuine interest in the well being of others. At our class reunion in 2019 she was the same lovely, happy person as always.

My deepest sympathy to the family of “Miss Susie.” She was a sweet presence in our neighborhood and one of the first to welcome me when I moved to Laurie Lane in 2006. She is missed.

I was so saddened to hear of Susie’s passing. I went to Hempfield, too…and we had many classes together. Most recently, Susie helped with organizing our 40-45- and 50th High School Reunions. I will always remember her beautiful smile. I feel honored and blessed to have had her as a friend…heaven just got another Angel…..please except my sympathy in the lose of your sweet sister.

I was also a classmate of Susie’s at Hempfield. I ran into her several years ago at Park City; she hadn’t changed a bit … she was still her sweet and smiling self. So sorry for your loss.

My deepest sympathy to the Wallin family. Susan was my Mom’s (Sandy Shirato ) Neighbor on Laurie Lane. From the very first day they met they became friends. We have such fond memories of Susan and our time spent together. Sandy and Susan would go to barn dances , church events and her favorite thing was going to my Mom’s to watch Hallmark movies. They would start with a trip to Dutchway for dinner then movies and. Ice cream. Susan was such a beautiful, kind , funny soul. She enjoyed going to my son’s little league football games and never missed his high school musicals. From the days of him riding his scooter in her driveway at six years old or sitting on her deck eating ice cream, to taking him to a dance or his high school graduation, she was always apart of our world. Treasure d memories will remain with us and our time spent with her. Rest In Peace my dear friend, You will be missed. ❤️
