Rand Web

Shirley M. Rand, 88, of 891 Ivy Drive, Lancaster, PA, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Glen at Willow Valley, after struggling with an illness that started in January of 2014. Shirley moved to Pennsylvania in May of 2013 to live with one of her daughters, Paula R. Kiernan. Shirley died the day after her 88th birthday, having lived a full and happy life.

Shirley is survived by her sister, Barbara Cox; her daughters, Barbara Simpson and Paula Kiernan; her grandsons, Kurt Martel, David Cornwall, Sean Cornwall and MacDonald Dailey; along with three great-grandchildren. Shirley is preceded in death by her grandson, Christian Cornwall, and her beloved husband and best friend, Murdock MacDonald Rand.

Shirley will have a life celebration service that will take place at The Congregational Church in New Canaan, CT at one o’clock on September, 20, 2014. We will be singing about the many gifts we receive from God; even in times of great trial. Her family feels truly blessed to have had Shirley in their lives.

I am thinking of you all — remembering, reminiscing — and alternating between laughter and tears. All my love goes with dear Shirley, my second mom, as she is reunited with Mac, at last. And, all my love to Paula and Barb and all the family. See you in NC in Sept. OX. Lib

We all have such wonderful memories of Shirley:
Wes’ friendship with Shirley lasted more than 50 years. He remembers Shirley as a very special person and one of his best friends.
Patt, Shirley, and the girls spent numerous hours together as she helped fill the void when Mac and Wes traveled with Union Carbide.
Ron’s memories of Shirley included time spent in New Canaan as well as in Amelia Island. Her hospitality, both on and off the golf course, was greatly appreciated by all of the Genuario’s.
Pam loved the gentle manner and kindness that Shirley shared with her family over a half of a century. Her house was always open to her friends, and we always loved spending time with her in Amelia Island.

Shirley was a one-of-a-kind unselfish woman. She will be sorely missed by a lot of people, especially by the Westland and Genuario families.

    To Barbara and Paula,

Please accept our deepest sympathy. We fondly remember the Rand’s of Sheridan Dr. from our days on Briscoe Rd. We are now living in Chatham on Cape Cod and don’t know whether we will be able to come to her funeral services, but our thoughts and prayers will be with all of you.

    Sincerely,

    Ethel and Bob Shafter

In case my first message did not get through please accept our condolences and know that Shirley was truly loved by her many friends here on Amelia Island. She was generous to a fault and loved her “Mac”, daughters and grandchildren. She’s up there waiting.

Dear Barbara and Paula: So sorry to hear about your Mom’s passing. We Russel’s always enjoyed our get togethers with you and your Mom and Dad. They are probably up there partying with Lois and Bob now! Anyway, my thoughts are with you at this difficult time and I wish you well. Sue Russel

Dear Barb and Paula, I was so sorry to hear about your Mom’s passing. She and your Dad will always live on in my fond memories of us growing up together. I always looked forward to hearing from her at Christmas. Lori, Bob and I are planning to go to her memorial service and look forward to seeing you and celebrating her life with you. Love, Nancy

Amy is going to come from California to join me and Lib at the celebration service. I am still so sad about losing Shirley but happy to remember all the fun we had over the years, including our great trips. So many happy memories from the days when Mac and Shirley were our neighbors. Love to you all and see you soon.
