Scott Nissley

In Memorial

Scott Nissley, 88, of Lancaster, died May 12, 2011, at Brethren Village. Born in Landisville, he was the son of the late W. Scott and Clara Musser Nissley. He was married for 68 years to Corinne Hollinger Nissley.

Scott was a 1941 graduate of East Hempfield High School. Earlier in his life, he worked as a farmer and then as a truck driver for the former SICO Oil Company in Mount Joy for 33 years. During semi-retirement, he was a courier for Red Rose Graphics and recovered cars for various auto auction dealers. He was a member of Hempfield Church of the Brethren where he was a past deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He was a fan of baseball and auto racing. An avid reader, especially concerning the Civil War, Scott will be remembered for his great wit, sense of humor, and a “guy who can fix almost anything.”

Surviving in addition to his wife are: 2 daughters, Connie, wife of Rick Seeley and Nancy, wife of Richard Marsden, both of New York; 3 sons, W. Scott III, husband of Vickie Kensinger Nissley of Maryland, Eric Nissley and his partner Henry Gibson of Massachusetts, David, husband of Gail Haeffner Nissley of Connecticut; 7 grandchildren, Amy Swarr, wife of John Zelig of Vermont, Dr. Peter Swarr, husband of Elizabeth Calhoun Swarr of Tennessee, W. Scott IV, husband of Toni Ross Nissley of Illinois, Justin Nissley of Texas, Laura Nissley of California, Jennifer Nissley of New York, and Daniel Nissley of Connecticut; 2 great-grandchildren, Hudson and Caroline Swarr. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Chris and Leroy Nissley.

A memorial service will be held at the Hempfield Church of the Brethren, 1186 Stevens St., Manheim, PA 17545 on June 4, 2011, at 3 PM. The family will visit with friends following the service. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Hospice of Lancaster County, P. O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125, Hempfield Church of the Brethren Building Fund, or the Brethren Village Good Samaritan Fund, P. O. Box 5093, Lancaster, PA 17606-5093.
