Wilmer S. “Bill” Oberholtzer

Wilmer S. “Bill” Oberholtzer,  84, of Lancaster, died December 25, 2010, after a hard battle for life. Bill worked for 39 years at the Armstrong Floor Plant, but his passion was helping others in whatever way he could. Born in Mount Joy, Bill spent his early years on various farms in the Mount Joy area. He received his High School diploma from onegal H.S. Following high school, Bill entered the Air Force and was in training to be an aircraft mechanic during the Second World War when health issues necessitated an early discharge. Bill met his wife Nancy in 1952 and they were married in 1955. He was an active member in the Ross Street United Methodist Church, teaching fifth grade Sunday School and using his vacation time to volunteer as a camp counselor for seven years. He also enjoyed bowling with the Armstrong Recreation League and delivered Meals on Wheels for 12 years. He was an avid gardener and provided his family with delicious vegetables for years. Bill spent his retirement years traveling, reading and playing golf. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was loved for honestly stating his opinions. Survivors: in addition to his wife Nancy of 55 years, Bill is  survived by his son, Robert (Maureen), his daughter, Ruthanne (Bill) Ferguson and his son David (Heidi); a sister, Naomi Rhoads; grandchildren Scott, Hugh, Cathleen and Ian. He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. Bill will be missed by all who received his words of help and encouragement. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service from Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster PA on Wednesday, December 29th at 2:00 P.M. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery with Military Honors. Please omit flowers.
