William Thomas Lyons

William Thomas Lyons, 83, of Lancaster, passed away on August 24, 2025, at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. He was the loving husband of Shirley Henry Lyons to whom he was married for 36 years.

Bill was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on July 4, 1942. He was the son of William T. and Florence Noonan Lyons.

After receiving his degree in Accounting from Merrimack College, he went on to pursue a law degree from Georgetown University. Bill worked as an attorney for the Department of Treasury until his retirement in 2004. During his tenure there, he received many awards and accolades.

Bill was also dedicated to others in many ways including through his volunteer work for organizations, including CASA, youth work camps and several relief organizations.

In his spare time, Bill enjoyed Irish dancing, fishing, reading, hiking, biking, traveling and spending time with his many friends, and family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed life and shared his wonderful sense of humor with all he encountered.

Remaining to cherish his memory, in addition to his wife, Shirley, are his son, William Lyons and his wife, Karen, his stepson Craig Henry and his wife, Connie, his two brothers Dave and Gerard Lyons, and daughter-in-law Christine Lyons. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his parents and his two children, Mary and Sean Lyons.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 32 W. Vine Street, Lancaster, PA 17603. A viewing will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the start of mass. Interment to follow at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will be provided by St. Mary’s following the burial.
