William Frazier Coakley, 96, a retired employee of the Department of Defense, passed away on 28th of August 2025 at Moravian Manor in Lititz, PA. Mr. Coakley, a resident of Lititz, was employed for over 40 years with various Department of Defense activities. At the time of his retirement in 1992, he was a member of the Senior Executive Service in the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon.
He served in the Army from 1951-1954 and began his career in the Federal Civil Service in 1954 at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
William (Bill) was the son of the late William C. Coakley and Margaret W. Coakley. He was a native of Havre de Grace, MD and attended public schools there. He attended Salisbury State Teachers College and graduated with a BA degree in Public Administration from the University of Maryland.
His interests included traveling the world with his wife during retirement, photography, lighthouses, gardening, reading, singing with Wesley Singers Men’s chorus and was an avid sports fan. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and participated in Marriage Encounter, Stonecroft Bible Study, and the Susquehanna Valley Couples Connection.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ruth Carroll Coakley, and two daughters, Robin Daniel of Fairfax, VA, James Daniel, and Rhonda Huckabee of Melbourne, FL. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, James, Arthur, and Richard Coakley.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service at the First United Methodist Church, Lancaster, PA on September 20th, 2025, at 2:00pm. Friends may greet the family at 1:00 pm, until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the First United Methodist Church or Masonic Hospice.
