Wilfred F Lain

Wilfred F. Lain, 91, died on June 21, 2026. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Susan E. (Kauffman) Lain.

Born in Cleveland, OH on July 23, 1934, he was the son of the late Wilfred F. and Emily G. (Hagenbaugh) Lain. His sister, Mary C. Lain-Berry and brother, Stanley C. Lain preceded him in death.

After graduating from Willoughby Union High School in OH, Bill entered the U.S. Navy in 1954 and served four years as a PN2. He received an AA degree from St. Mary’s College, MD in 1960 and went on to complete his study in music at Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ. Bill served as a choir director in New Jersey, Kansas, and Pennsylvania churches. In Kansas he was a piano technician under Charles Burbach at Wichita State University. From 1972 to 1996, Bill was the piano technician in the School of Music of West Chester University.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster.

His interests centered around music and ancestry. In recent years he discovered his relatives in Norwich, England and corresponded with a cousin, Ian Lain. Bill was a member of the Lancaster Historical Society.

Also surviving are his daughters, Kimberly G. married to Jonathan A. Shively and their children Benjamin, Noah and Lydia; Amber S. married to A. Scott Albright and their children, Heather C. Gast (David) and S. Anthony Albright, two great-granddaughters, Aria Rey Gast and Ava Sky Gast as well as nieces and a nephew.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
