Walter E. Herman, 85, of Lancaster, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County.

He was the husband of the late Myra Williams Herman who died in 1996. Born February 23, 1925 in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Edwin and Esther Adamire Herman.

Mr. Herman retired from Nabisco where he had been employed as a truck driver for 36 years. After retiring, he drove bus for Shultz Transportation, transporting Lampeter-Strasburg students for 18 years.

He attended Willow Street United Church of Christ. His interests included hunting, spotting deer, softball, stock car racing, gardening and eating ice cream. He had attended the West Lampeter High School. Walter served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are five daughters, Linda Jenks of Avon, IN, Connie wife of Donald Mowery of Millersville, Carol wife of John Trovage of Methuen, MA, Lorri wife of Guy Haney of Lititz, and Linda wife of Ed Martin of Lancaster; 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; four brothers, Art Herman of Strasburg, Lester husband of Evelyn Herman of Strasburg, Robert Herman of Lancaster, and Richard husband of Dottie Herman of Holtwood; three sisters, Betty wife of Robert Eby of Willow Street, Elsie wife of Robert West of Lititz, and Esther wife of Luther Kistler of Lancaster. He will be missed by his friend and companion, Noreen Graver.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Fred Irwin officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
