S. Arthur “Art” Shoemaker, 91, of Lancaster, passed away on November 30, 2025, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Stewart and Rochelle Shoemaker and the devoted husband of Nelda (Schaffstall) Shoemaker for 67 years. He is survived by his sons, Michael Shoemaker and Gregory Shoemaker (husband of Denise); his grandchildren, Renee and John; and his great-grandchildren, Grayson, Christopher, and Hannah.
A proud member of the Boy Scouts, Art carried the values he learned there into his service in the Naval Reserve, where he served for eight years. He later earned his bachelor’s degree from Millersville University and spent 34 years teaching Industrial Arts at Elizabethtown High School. A gifted woodcarver, his work marked by artistry and exceptional talent earned recognition across the United States. Through his teachings, Art inspired generations of students, encouraging creativity, confidence, and pride in craftsmanship. His influence on young people and the community will be long remembered.
Art was deeply devoted to the Moravian Church, where his faith guided his life and service to others.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Lititz Moravian Church, 8 Church Square, Lititz, PA 17543. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. A private burial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
