Ruth Brain

Ruth Brain, 75, went home to be with the Lord whom she loved on January 14, 2010 at Calvary Fellowship Homes where she was a long-term resident. Ruth, born February 19, 1934, was the daughter of Dow and Amelia Stam Brain. Just minutes before she entered the presence of the Lord, a small group of choir members from her church – Grace Baptist of Lancaster – ushered her to Glory by singing some of her favorite hymns. A gifted musician herself, Ruth used her talents to serve and inspire others.

A loving, dedicated servant, Ruth will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She served as a missionary in France for 30 years. Prior to that, she taught children in the Corning, NY area with Bible Centered Ministries (formerly the Bible Club Movement). After returning from France to help with the care of her aging mother, she continued to teach children in the Youth Ministries Department of Bible Centered Ministries located in Akron, PA. Upon retiring from teaching, she continued to volunteer at Willow Valley Retirement Center as well as Calvary Fellowship Homes. Ruth will always be remembered by her signature smile, her great friendliness, her genuine love for people and her dedication to the Lord.

Ruth was predeceased by two infant brothers; she is survived by a brother, Prof. Joseph, husband of Rev. Judith Brain of Essex, MA; a sister, Lois Turello, wife of Stanley W. Ginder of Lancaster, PA; four nephews, Dow, Derek and Jason Brain, and Daniel Turello, all living in MA. She is also survived by three great-nephews, Joshua, Zachary and Nicholas Brain, as well as numerous cousins in many parts of the world. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Fellowship Homes at a later date to be announced.

In Ruth’s memory, gifts may be sent to Calvary Fellowship Homes Benevolent Fund, 502 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601.
