Russell K. King, Sr., 86, of Lancaster, died at his home on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.
He was married 61 years to Anna Ruth Miller King. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Oliver and Jennie Kauffman King.
Mr. King was a Certified Life Underwriter for Mutual of New York for many years and then later in life was an independent insurance agent. He was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School. Mr. King served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Church of the Apostles U.C.C. in Lancaster. Russell was a 49-year member and past president of the Paradise Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow, and also a member of the Lodge No. 43 F.&A.M., The Shriners, The Lancaster County Shrine Club, The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Lancaster, The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Harrisburg, the V.F.W. Post 7294 in Millersville, and the Central Pennsylvania Rock and Mineral Club of Harrisburg.
His interests included attending auctions, woodworking, jewelry making, gardening and music.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Jenny K. wife of Steve Sheaffer of Wallingford, and Dr. Ann King of Lancaster; a son, Russell, Jr. husband of Karen King of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Christopher Sheaffer, Matthew Sheaffer, Russell King III and Brittany King; a brother, Robert King of Parkville, MD. He was preceded in death by sisters, Martha King and Evelyn Houghton, and by brothers, Paul and Ralph King.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at The Church of the Apostles, 1850 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Dr. Tyson L. Frey officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the Strasburg Mennonite Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603 or to the American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603.
