Roy Richard Sherbahn

Roy Richard (Dick) Sherbahn passed away on Wednesday March 6th at Homestead Village in Lancaster. Dick was born in Lancaster on May 5, 1928, the son of Helen E Sherbahn and Roy D Keller. After graduating from McCaskey High School in 1946, he joined the US Army and served with the occupational troops in Japan as a supply Sergeant in the 7th cavalry regiment.

Following his discharge from the Army, Dick enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School. At Wharton, Dick was editor in Chief of the school yearbook, chairman of the student union, president of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, and a member of the Spinx Homer Society. Dick met his first wife and mother of his children (Joan Peck) at Penn and they were married in Lancaster in 1954. Dick joined the Connecticut General Co in Lancaster, later earned his CFP and marketed insurance and investments.

Dick enjoyed skiing, tennis, fishing, camping, canoeing and volunteering. He was active in the local Sertoma Club for many years, volunteering at the Sertoma Chicken BBQ at Long’s Park, and helping to Start Kids Kamp and later supporting Compass Mark organization in Lancaster. Dick traveled to Canada, the Caicos Islands, the Galapagos Islands, and journeyed to Australia, Tasmania, and NZ. Dick had many friends at Homestead Village and around Lancaster and was well known for his social charm and singing skills.

Dick is survived by his four sons, Richard, Jeffrey, Edward (Ted), and James, nine grandchildren and his ex-wife Flor Santalo.

A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 538 W. Chestnut St. Lancaster, PA on April 28th at 3PM. In Lieu of flowers, Dick asked friends to consider making a contribution to Compass Mark, who help the Lancaster community with addiction.
