Rev. Robert H. Wright, 73, of Willow Valley Retirement Community, Willow Street, PA died on Wednesday, September 12th at Fairfax Hospital in VA.

Born in Frankfurt, PA he was the son of the late Alexander J. and Grace Krier Wright.


Bob grew up in Drexel Hill, PA and graduated from Upper Darby H.S. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon Univ. in Pittsburgh, he married Marianne Louise Thorne Wright, and in February they would have celebrated 53 years of marriage.

He was stationed in the U.S. Army in Heidelberg, Germany from 1954-1956. He graduated from Drew Univ. Seminary and went into the ministry with the United Methodist Church in 1959. His first church appointment was at Covenant UMC in Springfield, PA followed by St. Andrews UMC in Havertown, PA. He was then appointed to Lancaster where he served at Grandview UMC for 7 years. His next two assignments were Council Director with the UMC Conference Center in Valley Forge and as a Superintendent in the Lancaster District until 1980. His final church assignment was at Asbury UMC in Allentown, PA where he served until his retirement in 2000.


The Wrights have been living in Willow Valley Retirement Community near Lancaster since 2004. His passions have included family, sailing, carpentry, violin, walking and their Lake Wallenpaupack home.

Bob died peacefully surrounded in love by family. He is survived by his wife, Marianne (Mannie) Wright of Willow St., PA, two daughters, Elizabeth (Libbie) wife of Jeffery Jae of Tampa, FL, and Marian, wife of Stephen Sieke of Alexandria, VA, four grandsons, Ryan and David Jae and Alex and Jack Sieke.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church; corner of Duke and Walnut Sts., Lancaster, PA on Saturday, October 6th at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 6th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Memorial Fund of First United Methodist Church, 29 E. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA 17602.
