Rev. John  “Wes” “Revie” Anderson

On Sunday, May 1st, Rev. John “Wes” “Revie” Anderson passed away surrounded by his wife of 57 years, his 6 living children along with some grandchildren, a great grand child and close family friends. His life was truly a life well lived. He was the only child of John and Elsie Anderson. He was born December 17, 1927 in Audubon, NJ. After serving his country in the U.S. Navy, he graduated from Franklin & Marshall in 1953 with a degree in History. He and new wife Joan headed to Chicago, IL, where he graduated in 1956 from the McCormick Theological Seminary with a divinity degree. His first church was in Montoursville, PA, or as he referred to, “God’s quiet country.” He served the Montoursville church from 1956 until 1968 when he returned to Lancaster. Wes or Revie was the Pastor of the Bethany Presbyterian Church until his retirement from the active pastorate in 1993. In addition to his many church and ecumenical activities, he was a passionate supporter of the S. June Smith Center, the annual CROP walk, the Lancaster Epilepsy Service Unit and the Community First Fund. If not involved with a church activity, attending a meeting for a community organization, he could be found among the tomato plants or corn rows of his beloved vegetable garden. In his retirement, he served as an interim pastor at a number of churches, sang with the Franklin and Marshall Alumni singers and attended countless events that involved his grandchildren.

Wes is survived by his wife Joan. Together they have 7 children: Susan Jones, wife of Larry Jones, Dr. Christine Barnes, wife of Dr. Kevin Barnes (Mechanicsburg), Bruce W. Anderson (deceased), Mark Anderson husband of Karen, Gail Murray, wife of Jay Murray, David Anderson, husband of Lisa and Rodney Anderson. Joan and Wes are the proud grandparents of 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and anxiously anticipating a new arrival in October.
