Paul Nolt Shellenberger

Paul Nolt Shellenberger, 91 of Homestead Village, passed away at Hospice of Lancaster County on Good Drive surrounded by his loving family on March 30, 2011. He passed in the same way that he lived, with strength and love.

Today, his family gives thanks for his memorable life and all who enriched it.

Paul was the devoted husband of Betty J.  (Bemesderfer) Shellenberger, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.  Paul enjoyed traveling with his wife.  Paul’s wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Peter R. and Fannie (Nolt) Shellenberger.  He was preceded in death by three sisters, Jeanette Kershaw, Esther Spotts and Anna Weisenfluh.

Paul graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1940  with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. He retired in 1980 as Vice President of Operations from Allied Chemical (now Honeywell Inc), Morristown, NJ after 40 years of service. During his tenure at Allied Chemical he also managed plants at Baltimore, MD, East St. Louis, IL, Buffalo, NY and Claymont, DE. He also served as Director of Operations in Morristown, NJ.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Barbara Ann wife of Roger Sheets, Williamsport, PA, and Donna Lynn wife of Douglas Herrmann, Terre Haute, IN;  a son Paul Jr., husband of Cherry, Wilmington, DE. There are four surviving grandchildren Jill, Amanda, Zachary, Kim and six great-grandchildren  Owen, Claire, Samuel, Seth, Kyle, and Kayla.  He was predeceased by a granddaughter Julia.  In his spare time he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Shellenberger was a community volunteer, a member of the Church of the Apostles and a sports enthusiast.  During his retirement he served as Council Chairman for the Church of Apostles.  In the community he served as a volunteer for SCORE – Counselors to America’s Small Business and on the Retired Senior and Volunteer (RSVP) Advisory Board.  Additionally, he served with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Senior Insurance Assistance Programs (SIAP) offering income tax and insurance aid for the elderly. Additionally, he was active with meals on wheels. Paul was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Paul’s family wishes to extend special thanks to the Staff of Homestead Village Health Care Center and the Lancaster County Hospice for their loving care and kindness. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Paul’s Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Homestead Village, 1800 Village Circle, Lancaster, PA on Friday,  April 15 at 10:00 AM.  Friends may greet the family on Friday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service.  Interment will be private in Silver Springs Cemetery, Silver Springs, PA.
