Patricia N. Rineer, 95, of Lancaster, passed away on September 9, 2026. Born March 23, 1931 in Watsontown, PA she was the daughter of the late Alvin L Newton and Mildred (Ditzler) Newton. She was the loving wife of the late Robert J. Rineer, whom she was married to for 58 years before his death in 2019.
Patricia was a graduate of Watsontown High School and Mansfield State Teachers College. She was a devoted teacher. She began her career in the Steelton-Highspire School District in 1955 and later accepted a position with the Hempfield School District. She taught 7th & 8th grade Home Economics for 33 years at Centerville Junior High before retiring in 1993. She made many lifelong friends while teaching there.
Pat and Bob were devoted partners in both life and adventure. They shared many journeys together before his death and traveled extensively to countries like Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, Ireland, Sweden, and Wales.
Patricia was an active member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Most notably she was involved in the Woman’s Group, coordinating and facilitating their Basement Sale. She also took a lead role in planning luncheons for funerals and helped prepare Advent and Lenten dinners. When she wasn’t at church, you could find her reading a book, playing bingo, gardening, baking, or sewing. Pat loved football; whether it was Friday nights at Hempfield, Saturdays watching or attending Penn State or watching the Steelers on Sundays. In the summer, she always looked forward to swimming in her pool and to vacationing in Avalon, NJ with her family. Family was at the center of Patricia’s life and she cherished every opportunity to spend time with those she loved. She loved watching her grandchildren participate in athletic activities, music and dance recitals, and performances. She attended them all, and sometimes multiple events in one day.
Patricia is survived by two children: Kelly Rine (wife of the late Dana Rine) and Keith Rineer, husband of Kim Hershey Rineer; six grandchildren, Kyle, husband of Emily (Longenecker) Rineer, Robert Rine (partner of Mikaela Anthony), Kassidy (Rineer), wife of Caden Strause, Daniel Rine, Kurtis, husband of Allison (Hege) Rineer, and Kathryn Rine. She is also survived by one great grandchild, Dane Strause.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 25 N. West End Ave, Lancaster, PA on September 23, 2026 at 11:00 am. A visitation will occur from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will be at Riverview Burial Park in Lancaster.
