Michelle L. Butler

d. October 1, 2010

Michelle L. Butler, 40, of Wrightsville, passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2010 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born October 26, 1969 in Staten Island, NY, she was the daughter of John (Jack) J. Butler and Carolyn M. Butler of Lancaster. She was a 1987 graduate of Hempfield High School and a 1992 graduate of York College with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Michelle worked for 17 years as a registered nurse, showing her signature care and compassion to all whom she cared for. A devoted football enthusiast, she enjoyed watching her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers always in the company of good friends. Michelle was an adoring aunt to her niece and nephews, and a glowing presence in their lives. Michelle conquered leukemia in 1988 and was a 22- year bone marrow transplant survivor and a 2-year breast cancer survivor. In addition to paving the way for her interest in nursing, her battle with leukemia ignited a passion for volunteerism and fundraising for worthwhile organizations such as the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, for whom she spearheaded an annual golf tournament at Sunset Valley Golf Course to raise funds for research to find a cure for leukemia. In these, as with all her endeavors, she showed remarkable dedication and passion.  Michelle will be lovingly remembered by her parents, her paternal grandmother, Florence Brensinger of Lancaster, her brother and sisterin- law, Robert and Mariela  Butler of Poolesville, MD, her sister and brother-in-law Denise (Butler) and David Brown of Pinehurst, NC, her nephews, Daniel and David Butler, and her niece, Lexi Brown. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at Richard A. Sheetz Funeral Home, 2024 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA on Wednesday at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Martin Swartz officiating. Interment will be held at St. Paul’s Wolf’s Cemetery in West Manchester Township (York). The family will receive friends at Richard A. Sheetz Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30PM and from 9:30 to 10:00 AM on Wednesday. Please omit flowers; the family requests that memorials be sent in Michelle’s memory to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 800 Corporate Circle, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
