MaryEllen Reynolds Sebastian, in her 73rd year, died at her home on February 16, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Walter Worth Reynolds and Marie Kuhnle Kreider and the stepdaughter of the late J. Mark Kreider. She is survived by two daughters, Caren S. Sebastian of Lancaster, and Cindy S. Conley, wife of Mark Conley of York, and her two granddaughters, Danielle Sebastian Conley of Lancaster, and Jennifer Sebastian Bojarski wife of Christopher Bojarski of York. Also surviving is a sister, Doris McKay, wife of David McKay of Weymouth, Mass., and a brother, Richard Reynolds, husband of Kieu Reynolds of Lancaster and many beloved nieces and nephews.

MaryEllen was a 1954 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School and in the 1980’s went on to earn her Associates Degree from F & M College. She retired from Lancaster Newspapers in 2002 where she was the General Advertising Sales Coordinator.

For over sixty years, she was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and Elder and was instrumental in beginning the church’s Spanish ministry. Upon the dissolution of Memorial’s congregation, she found a new and loving church home at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ where she was a member at the time of her death.

A proud Democrat, MaryEllen was very active in local politics and previously served as a Democratic Committee person. She loved to entertain her family and friends and hosted many a Democratic fund-raiser. She loved to read and instilled her love of reading in her children and grandchildren.

A Service Celebrating MaryEllen’s life will be held on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 816 Buchanan Avenue, Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Bonnie Hollinger officiating. Friends may greet the family at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Private interment in Boehm’s United Methodist Cemetery, Willow Street, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in MaryEllen’s memory may be made to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 816 Buchanan Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603 or to ORCA, 610 N. Lime St., Lancaster, PA 17602.
