Mary Elizabeth Rendle, 88, of 950 Willow Valley Lakes Dr., Spring Run, Willow Street, PA died Friday, September 24, 2010 at The Glen at Willow Valley, Lancaster, PA.

Born in West Pittston, PA, daughter of the late Henry and Bessie Firestine, she was the wife of Gilbert R. Rendle for whom she provided a loving home for 67 years.

During World War II, Elizabeth accompanied her husband on his several assignments in the US. She remained actively involved and supportive of his work in banking across Pennsylvania, having lived in Norristown, Reading, Uniontown, West Chester and Willow Street. She was active in PA Banking Associations meetings over the years. A devoted wife and mother, Elizabeth was very active in the United Methodist Church and also as a volunteer in schools, hospitals, and gardening clubs. She had a special fondness for growing African violets and roses. An excellent housewife and cook, she prided herself on her home and hospitality and loved her family vacation home in Stone Harbor, NJ.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband and two children, Ruth R., wife of William A. Wood of Lancaster, and Gilbert R. Jr., husband of Lynne B. Rendle of Sinking Spring, PA. She had four grandchildren, Laura, wife of Robert Meisl of Lancaster, PA, Jeffrey, husband of Kelly Wood of Millersville, Matthew, husband of Heather Rendle of Atlanta, GA and Todd, husband of Eva Rendle of Mt. Kisco, NY. She was the proud great-grandmother of Alyssa and Matthew Meisl; Ava Elizabeth Wood; Edward and Carolyn Rendle, and Henry, Calvin and Clara Rendle. Elizabeth was predeceased by her two brothers, Ernest and Russell, and her sister, Ruth.

A memorial service will be held in the Appenzeller Chapel of First United Methodist Church, corner of Duke and Walnut Sts., Lancaster, PA on Saturday, October 16th, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Private interment will be held at Memorial Shrine Cemetery in Wyoming, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Camp Innabah, c/o Eastern PA Conference UNC, P.O. Box 820, Valley Forge, PA 19482.
