Martha “Marty” Kling Weaver

Martha “Marty” Kling Weaver, 90, formerly of School House Road and Woodcrest Villas, Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Mennonite Home. Born in Intercourse, PA, she was the daughter of the late Victor D. and Anna High Kling. Martha was the beloved wife of J. Paul Weaver, who passed away in 1975.

Marty loved life and lived it to its fullest. She spent much of her life celebrating the joy of music and spreading this joy to others. Marty graduated from West Chester State College Department of Music Education, and taught music in the Lancaster Twp. and City Elementary schools for 32 years. As a young couple, Marty and her husband Paul were charter members of Hamilton Park Church, where she served as the adult choir director for 30 years, and also directed the junior and youth choirs. Throughout her life, Martha was a member of many music organizations, including Musical Art Society – President 1985-87 and for 20 years, Chairman of the Scholarship Auditions, Lancaster Opera Company Associates, American Guild of Organists, and Community Concert Board. Marty served on the Mental Health Board, and for 20 years spent most Friday evenings as an Alpha Club volunteer organizing music activities, writing and directing musicals for performances, and helping with social activities for the members. She continued her love of learning and growing by getting her Masters Equivalency at the age of 70.

In her retirement years, Marty was a music teacher volunteer at the Landisville Learning Center and Music Director at the United Disabilities adult group, Choices. She was director of SRO (Standing Room Only), a singing performance group of retired school teachers and accompanist for the Grandview Community Singers. Martha volunteered for 22 years as a Lancaster Contact Hotline worker and spent many late nights speaking to people in need through this organization. Her love of volunteering and helping others led her to the honor of receiving both the Essence of Humanity Award and Mary Brown Society Award.

Marty had a strong bond with her family, friends and church, and found great joy in traveling world-wide with her two sisters. She was preceded in death by sister Elizabeth K. Smith. Surviving are her son Stephen Weaver, husband of Barbara, Lancaster; daughter Suzanne, wife of Ken Morlino, Narberth, PA; 4 Grandchildren – Ben Weaver, Ted Weaver, husband of Jess, Amanda, wife of Michael Comperchino, and Jessie, wife of Chad Wenger, 4 great grandchildren, sister Pat Burnley, and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family wants to thank the nurses and caretakers at Jackson Run at the Mennonite Home for their loving care.
