Lois Hershey Noll

Lois Arlene Hershey Noll, 82, formerly of Rohrerstown, died due to complications of Parkinson’s disease on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Landis Homes, Lititz, PA.  She was born April 25, 1928, in a historic farmhouse, once an inn, north of Lititz.  Her parents were D. Paul and Sue Snyder Hershey.

Lois and her husband Ken farmed a pristine farm in Rohrerstown for over 40 years.  Neighbors and friends looked forward to the first strawberries from Lois’ garden.  Before marrying Ken in 1948, Lois worked for Lititz Mutual Insurance. For 32 years until her retirement, she was the cashier in the Rohrerstown Elementary School cafeteria. She treasured relationships with the staff, the students, and their families.

Church, the work needed to keep church life functioning, and its social life were important to Lois. She was a member of East Chestnut Street Mennonite Church where she served on the Fellowship Commission, worked on renovation projects, and assisted Ken with trustee duties. Lois loved people; she was always gracious, friendly, and compassionate. Travel, dining out, and shopping also gave her pleasure.

Lois likely received the most pleasure from her family.  She loved having her family around her, as they were even at her death.  She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth B. Noll, her daughter Jeanette and husband Herman Bontrager, her son Herb and wife Becky Thomas Noll; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nathan Bontrager, and Chris (married to Katie) and Ben (engaged to Laura) Noll; and two treasured great grandchildren, Ethan and Andrew Noll (sons of Chris and Katie).  She also is survived by 3 sisters, Mary Jane Landis (widow of C. Elvin), Mildred Weaver (Levi), and Ann Landis (Paul G.), a brother Mark S. Hershey (Marty), and a sister-in-law Barbara Ann Becker (Arnold). She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Richard and an infant brother Paul.

A viewing will be held at Landis Homes, East Bethany Chapel, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, from 6-8 PM on Monday, April 4.  A memorial service will be held at East Chestnut Street Mennonite Church, 432 East Chestnut St., Lancaster, PA at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 5 preceded by visitation with the family at 10 AM.  Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Manheim House at Landis Homes, and Hospice of Lancaster County for the tender care they provided to Lois over the past 2½ years.  Memorial contributions may be sent in Lois’ memory to Landis Homes Caring Fund, 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz, PA 17543 or to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.  For other information or to send an online condolence to the family, visit our website at:
