Lewis G. Kauffman, Jr., 88, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Hospice & Community Care. He was the loving husband of Gloria (Gerlach) Kauffman.
Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Lewis G Kauffman, Sr. and Blanche (Wintermeyer) Kauffman.
After graduating from high school, he was employed by Armstrong World Industries from 1960-1993 retiring as the Mechanical Supervisor.
Lewis proudly served in the US Navy in active duty from 1954-1958 on the ship “San Pablo” as a Navy Pipe Fitter First Class. He later was a member of the Naval Reserves from 1958-1977 eventually retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4.
In his spare time, Lewis enjoyed horseback riding and trail and endurance competitions. He adored riding his motorcycle especially the cross-country adventures with friends and his grandson, Ben. He was also fond of woodworking specializing in fretwork. Lewis played softball where he participated in the Creswell Church League, Armstrong League, Willow Street Senior Team, Senior Traveling teams, Senior Harrisburg Leagues and represented PA in the Senior Olympics. He continued playing softball up until the age of 80.
In addition to his wife, Glorida, he is survived by children, Kevin Kauffman (husband of Jenn) and Kathy Kauffman-Browand (wife of Dwight); two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandchild.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service in the Gamber Center at Woodcrest Villa, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be private in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens.
