Katherine W. “Billie” Mowday Messer

Katherine W. “Billie” Mowday Messer, of Conestoga, died Monday, February 8, 2010.

She was the wife of the late Charles J. Messer, Jr. who died August 2, 1996. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Ida Katherine Shenk Mowday.

She was a 1952 graduate of Manor-Millersville High School, now Penn Manor. Billie was a secretary at Lancaster Press, Inc. for 14 years and she also drove school bus for Shultz Transportation Co. in Willow Street.

Mrs. Messer was a member of the Colemanville United Methodist Church, Conestoga, where she was involved with the United Methodist Women, Scholarship Committee, Missions Committee and the Colemanville Work Mission Team. She was a co-founder of the Conestoga Senior Citizens which was founded in 1977. Billie served on the Lancaster County Fresh Air Committee from 1967 to 1981, was a member of Farm Women #9 and served as a Democratic Committee woman for many years in Conestoga Township.

Surviving is a foster daughter, Pamela Thi Luu of State College; a foster son, Vi Ke Luu of Oklahoma; one foster grandson, Brandon Luuand and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 13, at 1:00 P.M. at the Colemanville United Methodist Church, 210 Colemanville Church Road, Conestoga, with the Rev. James A. Goudie and the Rev. Dr. Richard J. Rimert, Jr. officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service. Interment in the Conestoga United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Scholarship Fund at Colemanville United Methodist Church, 210 Colemanville Church Road, Conestoga, PA 17516 or to the Ronald McDonald House, 745 West Governor Road, Hershey, PA 17033-2304.
