John S. Reno

John "Jack" Sherman Reno Jr., a follower of Jesus Christ, peacefully entered the Lord's presence on November 18th, 2025 at the age of 98.

Jack was born June 6, 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA., son of the late John Sherman Reno and Ruth Hawthorne Reno of Glenshaw, PA. He was the husband of Irene Thomas Reno. Jack and Irene met at Shaler High School in the 1940s and had been sweethearts ever since.

He is survived by his sons, Wayne, husband of Susan Snyder Reno, Tom, husband of Ellen McKenna Reno and Gregg, husband of Sharon Blasko Reno. Irene and Jack had 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Jack's late brother, Donald, of South Riding, VA married to Mary Tea Reno, predeceased him in 2015. Sister, Nancy, lives in Frederick, MD and was married to the late James Seiler.

Jack enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1944 during his senior year of high school, and went on active duty when he turned 18 in 1945. He served as a sergeant during the latter months of World War II. After military service he received his bachelor’s degree from Grove City College in 1950 and his master's degree in 1953 from the University of Pittsburgh.

In 1950 he began a career in public education in the Pittsburgh area as a middle school teacher of math, physical education and as a boys’ basketball coach. From 1953 to 1959 he was a principal in several suburban school districts as well as a supervisor in the Allegheny County School office. In 1959 he joined the Silver Burdett Co. of Morristown, NJ, a leading educational publisher. He served in various sales management positions. In 1969 he became Vice President of Marketing. In 1980 he became President of the Fleming H Revell Co., a publisher of Christian books and a Christian magazine. During this period, he also taught a course in marketing at Ocean County College.

Jack dearly loved and treasured his loving wife Irene of 74 years, and all of their family members.
