John N. Bachman, 101, of Lancaster, went home to be with his Lord on March 26, 2024.
He was the husband of the late Ada Reba Buchwalter Bachman, who passed away in 2010. They had been married for nearly 64 years.
Born in East Lampeter Township on January 25, 1923, he was the son of I. Clayton and Emma Rote Bachman.
He is survived by three children: Joyce L., wife of Leon B. Hershey, Jr. of Narvon; John N. Jr., husband of Cynthia Onaga Bachman of Atlanta; and Lois I. Bachman, of Lancaster. Also surviving are two grandchildren and four great grandchildren, as well as nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and later in the amphibious forces on LST141, primarily in Italy, Sicily, North Africa, and Southern France.
Following his naval service, he attended Houghton College prior to architectural school. A former Realtor, he was involved in home building and land development.
A longtime member of Lancaster First Assembly of God, he served in his younger years in various capacities including youth leader, radio announcer, Sunday School Superintendent, church treasurer, building committee member, Trustee, Deacon and Elder
He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, as well as abroad.
The memorial service and interment will be private.
The family is grateful for the dedicated staff of Oak Leaf Manor North, where he lived for the past several years
