Jessica Hoffman Long, 74, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Homestead Village. She was the loving wife of Donald J. Long, to whom she was married for 53 years.
Born in Lancaster on September 3, 1952, she was the daughter of Dr. Harry H. Hoffman and Fay (Mellinger) Hoffman.
A graduate of Hempfield High School, Jessie earned her bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College. She devoted much of her professional career to education, working at Hempfield School District for 25 years. As Community Relations Director she was instrumental in the founding of the Hempfield Foundation and development of the communications technology department. She loved her community and served as a member of several volunteer organizations including The Junior League of Lancaster and the Board of Directors for the Amos Herr Foundation in Landisville.
She and Don enjoyed time with family and friends at their house in Ocean City, NJ and winter months on Anna Maria Island in Florida. Sharing a love for traveling together, she and Don enjoyed visiting many destinations in the US and abroad, with river boat cruises in Europe among Jessie’s favorite trips. Lovingly known as GaGa by her grandchildren, she cherished every moment with her family. She enjoyed being with people and loved gatherings big or small. She was a great cook and enjoyed planning for tailgates at PSU, family birthday and holiday celebrations, and get togethers with friends. In her spare time, she also enjoyed shopping, reading, movies, playing “Words with Friends” and playing cards with her card club.
In addition to her husband, Don, Jessica is survived by her daughters Michelle Jordan (wife of Josh) and Patricia Hatfield (wife of Brad), as well as her grandchildren (Tyler and Bryce Jordan and Ella Hatfield).
The family would like to thank the staff at the Young House at Homestead Village for their kindness and attention to Jessie.
