Jane Huber, born in Bethlehem, PA in 1927, was one of twin daughters born to Vera and Elmer Reinsmith. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles Huber; they were married just a few months short of 50 years. She is also predeceased by her sisters and by her husband of 20 years, Martin Marcus.

Jane attended schools in Reading and Allentown, PA. She always liked to say that she was baptized in the Jordan River (the one located in Bethlehem, PA). She loved her sisters and was known to defend them if they were picked on! She especially enjoyed playing in the neighborhood softball games in the nearby park.

During WW II Jane volunteered while still in high school to become a riveter and join the large family of women war workers as a “Rosie the Riveter.” She was very proud of her efforts, in her words, “to do our part to win the War!”

She married and moved to Wilmington, DE, in 1948. She was active in church and community work; enjoyed gardening and was active in the Green Acres Garden Club.

Charles and Jane moved to Willow Valley in 1993. This began an active time in their lives – freed of filling their days with home maintenance and yardwork, they travelled, took art lessons and socialized more than they had in their previous life including playing Rook with their friends almost nightly. Jane became quite an accomplished artist, always painting with watercolor which can be challenging for even the most experienced artist. Charles passed away in 1998 after a short illness.

Jane returned to her former church, Bethel Baptist, of Wilmington, DE, for a special event and met up with Marty Marcus. His wife had passed away shortly before Charles did and the two couples had known each other from church for more than 20 years. She and Marty were married in 2001.

Marty and Jane enjoyed their years together at Willow Valley; they also enjoyed several European River cruises.

Jane always thrived on being busy and probably never had a moment in her life when she said she was bored! She continued her love of reading, playing Scrabble, and walking at Willow Valley. She also liked being a part of her “Crafty Cards” group in which the group made greeting cards out of discarded ones for residents in The Glen, the assisted & skilled nursing center. Jane often visited residents in The Glen on a regular basis.

In September 2025, Jane was recognized by the World War II Museum for her work as a riveter during the War. This real-life “Rosie the Riveter’ was also pictured with the Museum Director in the Willow Valley Retirement Community’s quarterly magazine, “The Willow.”

Survivors include son Robert Huber, daughter Janet Krapels (Theo), granddaughter Brittany Carlston (Morgan), and great-grandson August Carlston.

Also surviving are Marty’s sons Martin (Kelly) Marcus, Michael (Sandra) Marcus and their children and greatgrandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 1 at 10am in the Willow Valley Retirement Community, Manor North, Johnson Auditorium. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Water Street Mission, P.O. Box 7508, Lancaster, PA 17604-7508.
