James M. Scheib

James M. Scheib, 93, of Manheim Township, passed away unexpectedly at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital on Monday, February 19, 2024.

Born in Tower City, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Mayanna E. (Schucker) Scheib. He was the husband of Marian W. Scheib, who died in 1995.

 After graduating in 1948 from the Porter Township High School, where he lettered in baseball, football, and basketball, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Toledo. On completion of his naval enlistment, he joined the U.S. Air Force; he served in Germany, Morocco, and North Carolina. He worked as a weather observer and completed his service as a staff sergeant.

A resident of Lancaster since 1955, he retired in 1993 after more than 30 years working in the aluminum industry. He played recreational softball and enjoyed hunting and bass fishing. He was an avid backyard bird-watcher. He also enjoyed gardening. He was a fan of Phillies baseball and Penn State football.

He was a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for 63 years, frequently serving as an usher at church services. He was also a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his son, Jeffrey L. Scheib. He is also survived by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moyer, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Moyer, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bingaman, all of Tower City; Mrs. Patricia Reitenbach of Elizabethville, Pennsylvania; and Mr. Alfred Scheib of Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.

Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to a visitation on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 9 a.m. in the narthex at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 500 Pearl Street, Lancaster P.A. 17603, the funeral service will begin in the sanctuary at 10 a.m. with The Rev. Bob Ierien  officiating. Interment will follow the service at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, 350 Greenwood Rd, Tower City P.A. 17980. The services have been entrusted to DeBordSnyder Funeral Home and Crematory, 141 E. Orange St. Lancaster P.A. 17602.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in his honor to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 818 Fifth Street, Lancaster, P.A. 17603
