Jack L. Fields

Jack L. Fields, 87, of Lancaster, died peacefully at sunset on July 15, 2011, at LGH after a brief illness. Jack and Priscilla “Pat” Fagan Fields, his wife of 63 years, previously had lived in Beaver and Coraopolis, PA, before moving to Lancaster in October of 2009. Jack read the Lancaster newspaper from cover to cover as a way of getting to know the area.

Born Sept. 16, 1923, in Pittsburgh, PA, he attended Ambridge HS and subsequently joined the U.S. Army where he was a Staff Sergeant serving as a medic in Company C, 79th Infantry Training Battalion in Europe. After the war he worked for and later became owner of Hicks Floor Inc. in Ambridge, PA. He was a member of the Masons, Doric Lodge #630, in Sewickley, PA.

An avid Steelers fan, Jack relished his spring turkey hunts and working outdoors, helping Pat in the garden and clearing his back woods. He also had an interest in the Civil War and frequented Gettysburg when he was able. Always a kind and cheerful gentle man, Jack was most generous with his time and talents in service to others, and one of his greatest joys was his grandchildren.

A devoted and caring husband, he is survived by his wife, as well as his daughter Jacquelyn F., married to David H. Gustafson, and grandchildren Carl Gustaf-son, husband of Kelly Frey, and Katie Gustafson. His positive outlook and caring spirit are his legacy to his family and friends.

It was Jack’s wish that there be no viewing or service.
