Frances Sylvia Kinderwater, née Miller, age 95, died peacefully at home on February 1, 2026.
She was born August 24, 1930 to Frank S. and Sylvia Klair Miller in Wilmington, Delaware. A proud Fightin’ Blue Hen, she graduated from University of Delaware in 1952 with a social work degree although her passion was mathematics. Despite living over 60 years in Lancaster, she always called the “First State” home.
She met a Minnesota man at the age of 26 on a blind date. Bill was smitten with her smile; Fran noted he had nice shoes. A match that lasted over 53 years until Bill’s passing in 2010.
Her interest in finance framed her future work with Fulton Bank that spanned 25 years. She insisted on completing her own taxes until her nineties. Fran/Mom/Muz/Gramuz’s creativity and frugality, byproducts of her Depression era upbringing, will be remembered with humor and love. Always in constant motion, she rarely sat and walked in all kinds of weather. She gave generously to her family through handmade cards, intricate mending of 70’s patchwork denim, her unrivaled piecrust, and made to order cookies.
She is survived by her sons: Kurt M. (Valerie), Colorado Springs, CO; Carl F. (Christine), Elizabethtown; Craig W. (Pamela), Lancaster; Eric J. (Joanne), Lancaster ; and one daughter, Anne Kinderwater Carroll (Andrew), Lancaster; and twelve grandchildren: Linda (Adam), Joe (Katie), Max (Marriah), Kirby, Kyle (Sara), Hannah (Dylan), Kate (Matt), Michael (Lauren), Paul, Joshua, Helena, and Evie. In addition she will be missed by her dear sister Clara Henderson, Bloomington, IN, bonus grandsons, Kyle (Emily) and Connor White, seven great granddaughters (Emilie, Tessa, Phoebe, Emma, Miller, Lauren, Edie) and a great grandson, William, aka “Little Bill.”
The family would like to thank the exceptional care by the staff of Good's and Wissler's Run at Trillium Place over the past year.
