Evelyn M. Sigman September 12, 1931 – March 26, 2026
Evelyn M. Sigman, 94, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, Evelyn lived a full and meaningful life defined by love, service, and quiet strength.
Born on September 12, 1931, in Mountville, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late George Amos Sigman and Ruth Marley Sigman. She was formerly of Strasburg, Pennsylvania, where she built a life centered on family, community, and faith.
On December 19, 1948, Evelyn married the love of her life, John J. Sigman. Together they shared 74 wonderful years of marriage until his passing. Their enduring partnership was a testament to lifelong devotion.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Dennis E. Sigman (Deborah) and Roger Sigman; her grandchildren, Steven Sigman and Chelsa Burfield; and nine great-grandchildren who brought her immense pride and joy. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Clifford Sigman, and her granddaughter, Amanda Sigman.
A proud graduate of Hempfield High School, Class of 1949, Evelyn went on to serve her community through her work as Food Service Director for the Lampeter-Strasburg School District, retiring in 1986. She was admired for her strong work ethic, organization, and attention to detail.
Evelyn found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid gardener with a special talent for growing fruits, vegetables, and beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed reading, playing cards, baking, cooking, and expressing her creativity through sewing, knitting, crocheting, and counted cross-stitch.
A woman of faith, Evelyn was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she sang alto in the choir, volunteered her time playing piano for services and Bible studies, and served faithfully on numerous committees. She was also a member of the Strasburg Women’s Club and a lifetime member of the Mount Joy VFW Auxiliary.
In 2003, Evelyn moved to the Woodcrest Community, where she formed many meaningful friendships and remained actively involved in community life. Most recently, she resided at Trillium Place at the former Mennonite Home, where she continued to be surrounded by care and compassion.
Evelyn will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication to family, and the warmth she brought to all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she shared.
Interment will be private in Boehm's Cemetery Willow Street PA.
