Ernest H. Thomas

Ernest “Ernie” H. Thomas, 86, of Millersville, passed away on June 2, 2024 at the Mennonite Home.   He was the loving husband of Lois (Boose) Thomas to whom the celebrated their 63-wedding anniversary on May 27th of this year.

Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Chester and Suie (Harnish) Thomas.

After graduating from high school, Ernest spent much of his career as a butcher/meat cutter and business owner for C.H. Thomas Sons Fresh Meats, where they operated out of their home and featured their products out of Central Market.  After selling this business, Ernest was employed as market master for Central Market for two years and then moved on to work at Darrenkamps as well as for John Herr’s in his retirement.  He also was appointed as tax collector for Pequea Township

He was an active member of New Danville Mennonite Church where he served as a song leader as well as the treasurer for the church and its adjoining cemetery.

In his spare time, he enjoyed working part-time for a local funeral home as well as spending time with his adoring family.

In addition to his wife, Lois, he is survived by children, Eric Thomas (partner of Sharon) and Jodi Thomas (fiancé to Joseph); two grandchildren, Haylee and Sophia; and siblings, Ivan Thomas (husband of the late Martha) and Isaac Thomas (husband of Thelma) and Grace Redcay (wife of Ken).  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Elmer Thomas.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in New Danville Mennonite Church, 103 Marticville Rd, Lancaster, PA 17603 on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM.   A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the adjoining church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to:  The Mennonite Home Benevolent Fund, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 or to the Mennonite Central Committee at https://mcc.org/donate.  To leave an online condolence for the family, please visit: www.DeBordSnyder.com
