Earnest George Johnson

Earnest George Johnson, age 73, left his earthly life and is resting easy, free of his pain in the arms of his Heavenly Father on January 21, 2022.

George was born in Newport News, VA and graduated from Newport News High School.  He later studied and graduated from the Apprentice school in Newport News Ship Yard. He moved to Carrolltown, VA where he was one of the first members of the Carrolltown Volunteer Fire Company. His family owned Johnson’s Confectionary Store on the corner of 38

th

and Huntingdon Avenue.

George was a member of United Association BTJ Pipefitters Local 272 out of Portsmouth, VA.  During his life in construction, he traveled throughout the United States from New Jersey to Sutter Creek, CA.  He worked for the Department of the Navy, Army and NASA. George would always say, “I have built everything from outhouses to nuclear power houses.”

George is survived by his wife, Marianne K. Johnson of Ephrata, PA; his son, Christopher N. Johnson (husband of Nicole) and grandson, Britain Johnson and first wife, Cindy Sobleman all from Jacksonville, FL; sister, Hazel Lemon of VA; daughters, Elizabeth K. Wohr of Lititz, PA and Gretchen M. Wohr of Hallam, PA; and two grandchildren, Olivia M. Wohr and Nicholas C. Emlet. George was preceded in death by his parents, George Johnson and Daphne Lee Johnson and his brother, J.W. Johnson.

George was a man of deep faith and practiced his faith every day.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at DeBord Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602 on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 3:30 PM.  A viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.  Per George’s wishes, he will be cremated following the funeral.  To leave an online condolence for the family, please visit:
