Elmira (Ellie) Eckert Bard passed away on February 27, 2026. . She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. O.S. Eckert of East Petersburg. She is survived by her son, Mitchell and niece Lynn Dull. Her husband, Richard and sister, Marie predeceased her.

She was a graduate of Hempfield High School where she was a cheerleader and a member of the Orchestra, plus playing four years of Varsity basketball, field hockey, and track. She then attended Millersville State Teachers College. She taught school in the Lancaster City School District and later did substitute teaching in Hempfield, Manheim Twp., and Lancaster City. At college, she played 3 years of field hockey and served as Co-Captain of two teams that were undefeated which resulted in two State Championships. Later, tennis and golf (a Hole in One Member) became her favorite sports.

As a junior at M.V., she was chosen among others to be in the Queens Court on May Day Celebration representing her class. Ellie was an avid reader, enjoyed the game of bridge, loved working in her yard, planting flowers and eagerly awaiting the month of May when her 30 plus azaleas came into bloom. She taught Sunday School for many years at her former church and also worked at the polls in Manheim Twp. She was a former member of the Women’s Symphony Assoc., Town Club, Musical Art Society, O.D.C, and the Ever Green Circle (Hospice).

Ellie and her late husband have been members of Westminster Presbyterian Church for twenty plus years. 2151 Oregon Pike Lancaster, PA 17601, anyone wishing to make a contribution in her memory may do so to the above address.
