Edward J. Patton, 81, of 2449 Leaman Rd., Ronks, PA died Wednesday, April 1st, at Conestoga View. He was the widower of Verna Scott Patton who died in November of 2002.
Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Edward R. Patton and Paul and Clara Beck Hill.
He was a member and usher of the Lancaster Grace Evangelical Congregational Church. He worked at the former Hubley Manufacturing/Playskool. Later he worked for the Lancaster Housing Authority. A veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, he was a member of Post #1690 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lancaster and the Amvets Post #19 of Lancaster. He loved and collected horses and Hess trucks. He also enjoyed the outdoors.
He is survived by two step-daughters, Shirley, wife of Dennis Lenox of Willow Street, Patty, wife of Kevin Brown of Bausman; two stepsons, Leroy Thatcher, Jr. of Manheim, and Thomas Thatcher of Oregon; eight step grandchildren and seventeen step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Wiker of Lancaster and Gloria, wife of Ted Sherman of Lancaster; one brother, Benjamin, husband of Jeannette Hill of Ronks, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, Columbia, PA. Friends may call at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Military Honors will be accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be sent to the American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603.
