Edward C. Kraft, Jr., 72, of Lancaster, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Lancaster General Hospital as a result of an injury sustained from a fall while fishing in one of his favorite trout streams in Mifflin County, PA.

He was married 50 years to Shirley Mayer Kraft. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Edward C., Sr. and Anna McMillen Kraft.

Mr. Kraft retired from the United States Air Force as a Lt. Colonel in 1984 after 26 years or service. Following his retirement he worked as the Business Manager of the Lancaster County Prison for 11 years. He was a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and received his master’s degree from the University of Southern California.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church U.C.C. in Lancaster. Ed was also a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club, a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, the Elks and the Air Force Association. He was an avid lifetime fly fisherman and a fly tier who won many local and national fly tying competitions.

Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Jill Kraft Petersen wife of Alan Petersen of Miami, FL, Jean Elizabeth Kraft of Lancaster; a son Edward C. Kraft III husband of Cristina Kraft of Smithfield, VA; six grandchildren, Jessica Sweeney, Danielle Davis, Charles Davis III, Zachary Davis, Mitchell Kraft and David Kraft; a great granddaughter Cheyenne Davis; two brothers, Charles A. Kraft of Lewistown, and Gordon A. Kraft husband of Yvonne Legget Kraft of Lancaster; two sisters, Susan K. wife of Curtis C. Huston of Norristown and Christine K. wife of Robert E. Diehl of Conestoga. He was preceded in death by sisters Mary Ann Williams and Karen L. Kraft.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Reformed Church U.C.C., 40 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Robert D. Sherfy officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Kraft’s memory may be made to the First Reformed Church U.C.C., 40 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602.
