Earl S. "Whitey" Bauder, Jr.

Earl S. “Whitey” Bauder, Jr., 88, of Lancaster, died Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Home.

He was married December 16, 1944 to Ruby M. Detwiler Bauder. Born September 14, 1922 in Utica, NY he was the son of the late Earl S. Bauder, Sr. and Mary Wardale Bauder.

Mr. Bauder attended St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD from 1940 – 1942 and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1943. He was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1946 as a First Lt. after serving in the Pacific.

Earl joined Huth Engineers in 1946 and became a Professional Surveyor in Pennsylvania in 1958 and in Delaware in 1961. He became a principal owner of Huth Engineers in 1972 and retired in 1983 as Senior Vice President with 36 years of service. He was president of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors in 1971 and 1972 and was named Surveyor of the Year by the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers in 1972.

Mr. Bauder was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served as President of Council for several years. He was a member of the Groundhog Lodge of Quarryville, the Pirates, Lamberton Lodge #476 F.&A.M., Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Temple, Lancaster County Shrine Club, Tall Cedars of Lebanon and the Military Officers Association of America. He was a former member of the Hamilton Club. His interests included golf, bowling and traveling.

Surviving besides his wife is a son, Barry, husband of Doris Bauder of Ellicott City, MD; a daughter, Kathleen, wife of Richard L. Amour of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Brian Bauder, Richard T., husband of Christine Amour, Chad Amour and Andrea Amour. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Bauder.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 500 Pearl St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. David D. Kreider officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Landisville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 500 Pearl St., Lancaster, PA 17603 or to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
