E. Margaret “Peg” McGaw, 86, Loving Wife, Mom, Mom-Mom, Great Mom-Mom, Sister, Aunt, and Friend went home to Heaven March 7, 2010 after a short illness. She was a life long resident of Lancaster.

Peg was the daughter of the late Florence Elizabeth (Althoff) and Barton Edward Yoder. She is survived by her husband, Robert “Barney” McGaw and on May 6th they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

She is also survived by a son Robert, husband of Linda Johnson McGaw, of Richmond, VA; a daughter Patrice, wife of Barry Leed of Millersville; a grandson Gregory, husband of Michelle Moore Leed of Lancaster, granddaughters Karen, wife of Scott Hartz of Millersville and Taylor, wife of Adam Fountain of Jupiter, FL; recent great grandchildren Owen Leed of Lancaster and Piper Fountain of Jupiter, FL; sisters Dorothy Huber of Norwalk, CA, and Anne Sheaffer of Bellflower, CA. Peg was preceded in death by sisters Lorraine DeVerter and Betty Andes, and brothers Russell, Robert, George, Richard and Charles “Moon” Yoder.

After attending J.P. McCaskey High School, Peg worked for Meiskey’s Jewelers of Lancaster as a bookkeeper. She retired from Penn Manor School District as a library aide at Hambright Elementary School. Her tutoring and mentoring of the young students brought great joy to her life.

Peg was devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed travelling, playing cards, reading and spending time with the gals of the “Beach Bums”. Volunteerism played a rewarding time in her retirement years. Organizations that benefited by her time include: S.A.G.A. (tutoring middle school reading); Centerville A.A.R.P; Millersville Senior Citizens; Meals on Wheels of Millersville; working at the polls on Election Day as Majority Inspector; Guys and Dolls and P.A.S.R.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Funeral at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Millersville, 222 N. George Street on Friday March 12, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held Thursday March 11, 2010 at the church from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Contributions may be made in memory of Peg to the Arthritis Foundation, 630 Janet Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601 or Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr., P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses, doctors and staff at LGH on 7 Lime and at Hospice of Lancaster County Mount Joy for the compassion, care and dignity given to her.
