Donald Wayne Harrod

September 17, 1948 — January 13, 2024

Donald W. Harrod, 75, of Lancaster, formerly of Moultrie, GA, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, January 13, 2024. Born on September 17, 1948, he was the son of the late Miles Dampier Harrod and Loretta Roberts Harrod. Don was also the husband of Judy (Watson) Harrod and they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July.

Upon graduation, Don served in the Army and was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX. In the late sixties, he moved to Lancaster and began employment at Beck Industries in Leola. He served as shop foreman and spent 42 years there, retiring in 2007. After retiring from Beck's, Don worked for K & W Tire Co., the Lancaster County Coroner and the DeBord Snyder Funeral Home.

Don enjoyed many things in life but most of all interacting with other people. He was a big sports enthusiast and had a great passion for the Georgia Bulldog football team which he followed religiously. He also enjoyed high school sports, especially football and could be seen on Friday nights and Saturday's, at Conestoga Valley and McCaskey games. He also was a season ticket holder of the Lancaster Barnstormers and followed them from their, inception in 2005. He got to know many of the players, both on the Barnstormers and the teams they played.

In his younger years, Don enjoyed playing golf. But as much as he enjoyed sports, he also was at home in the kitchen and was quite the culinary fan. Chicken corn soup was one of his signature meals and he enjoyed sharing what he made with friends. And as everyone who knew him could attest to, Don had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by his friends and relatives.

Don was also a member of St. Mary's Church. In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his sisters Vivian Nance of Cornelia, GA and Pam Strickland of Moultrie, GA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Albert Franklin and Ronnie.
