Donald H. Iredale
Donald H. Iredale, 81, former resident of Lancaster and Shillington, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at National HealthCare Center, Bluffton, SC.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Harold B. and Mable Groff Iredale. He was the husband of Ruth Snyder Iredale, and on September 29, 2010, they had celebrated 59 years of marriage.
He was a graduate of Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Iredale was the owner/operator of Iredale Funeral Home in Shillington, PA from 1969-1992. He was a past member and president of the Lancaster and Berks Counties Funeral Directors Associations prior to his retirement.
He was elected to the school board of the Governor Mifflin School District in 1973, serving for six years including one year as president toward the end of his tenure.
He was a Rotarian in both Lancaster and Shillington and proudly earned 25 years of perfect attendance.
He was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head, SC, where he and Ruth have resided since 2002.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by a son, Philip H. Iredale, of Galen Hall, PA; a daughter, Lynn L., wife of John Eanes of Galveston, TX, and three grandchildren, Austin P. Iredale of North Hollywood, CA, Danielle P. Iredale of Chapel Hill, SC and Clinton W. Iredale of Shillington, PA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice M. Iredale.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. The family will greet friends from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Conestoga Memorial Park. If desired, memorial contributions in Don’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
