Clyde, “Tim” Brown, 86, passed away after a short illness at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA. He was born on the 8th January 1938 in Indiana, PA to the late Clyde E. and Helen Myrtle Perry Brown. His wife of 64 years, Margaret Roseann Plutchak Brown preceded him in death in May of 2023. Tim grew up in Indiana, PA, graduating from the Indiana Joint High School in 1955. He went on to attend the University of Maryland, Munich Germany, 1955-56, while his Father, a career Soldier and Officer in the U. S. Army, was stationed in post-war Europe. Upon returning to the U.S., he graduated from Indiana University of PA with a BS degree in Secondary Education in 1960. He went on to earn his Masters in Counseling from Penn State University.

Tim held many different vocational positions throughout his life. First and foremost, he was an educator, working in schools in Ohio and PA and retiring from a full career in education in the mid-1990s. While teaching at Manheim Twp. H.S., he served as an Assistant Football Coach and Head Track Coach. Between teaching positions, he worked as a deputy sheriff in OH and as a business administrator for Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, PA. During the summers, he pursued employment as a survey crewman at the Kennedy Space Center and as a life guard at Coco Beach, FL (1959), a U. S. Forest Service Recreational Facility Director (1960), the Harrison Twp. Recreation Area Director in Philo, OH (1965 – 66), and the Aquatics Director at J. Edward Mack Scout Reservation, Lancaster/Lebanon, PA (1984 – 86).

Tim’s avocations were as extensive, with a focus on community service. He began volunteering for the American Red Cross in 1950 and continued until the mid-1990s. He became an instructor-trainer in first aid, CPR, and the EMT training courses. He was one of the first nationally registered EMTs in the country with a registry number of 00358. Tim joined the Eden Fire Company in the late 1960s and became Chief in 1969-70. He continued to serve with them until the mid-1990s. He was a key founding member of Manheim Twp. Ambulance in 1970 and worked as a volunteer and paid staff until the mid-2010s. He served in the Lancaster County Emergency Management Agency (formerly Civil Defense) as a Mass Care Officer with notable responses to the Agnes flooding and Three Mile Island incident. Tim was one of the key organizers of the Lancaster County Emergency Medical Services Council, the Emergency Health Services Federation of Southcentral Pennsylvania, and the Columbia EMS/QRS. He was twice awarded by the Commonwealth of PA for consecutive 25 year periods of work in EMS, there being no 50 year award.

Tim’s volunteer work was wide-ranging. In addition to the Fire Company, the Ambulance Associations, and the Red Cross, he also served as a leader, trainer, and camp counselor for the Boy Scouts of America. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Tim and Roseann joined Lutheran Disaster Relief and spent several months establishing camps in Mississippi to hold the thousands of volunteers who responded to the call to help others. He joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Post #8757, Reese Hall in Mountville, PA where he coordinated EMS and Law Enforcement support for their annual parades. He joined the Pennsylvania Free Masons in 2012 and was a member of Columbia Lodge No. 286.

His love of the outdoors was evident all year round. If not teaching or training, Tim could be found tending the Family garden and pristine rose bushes, camping, hiking, hunting, shooting, or fishing. Tim was very mechanically inclined and would never miss an opportunity to fix an appliance or piece of equipment. Friends and neighbors would bring cars, tools, and lawn mowers to his garage for repair. He was always disappointed in his later years as we moved to a culture of planned obsolescence.

Tim is survived by a daughter, Dr. Susan Browne and her husband David of Las Vegas, NV; his son and name-sake, Clyde “Ted” Brown, III and his wife April, of Archbald, PA; four granddaughters, Elena Rose and Natalie Jane Browne and Kaitlyn Morgan and Megan Noel Brown; his Sister, Pamela Pryor and Husband Pete, and nieces Kim and Gaylen; his sister-in-law, Gloria Kay Plutchak and nieces Pam and Elizabeth and numerous cousins of the Perry and Rankin Families.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service at Trinity Lutheran Church 31 S. Duke St. Lancaster PA 17602, on Friday April 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Joel Petruschke as officiant. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM in the Parish House. Interment will follow the service in the church Memorial Garden.
